A 20-year-old rider was fatally injured during a crash near the Stockton neighborhood on December 25.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Route 94 just before 2:00 pm on Wednesday. The rider was transitioning onto the Interstate-15.
Authorities say that the young man, who is from Coronado, was run over by a pickup truck after he crashed on the freeway. He was riding a 2013 Ducati Monster at the time of the crash. His name has not been released.
A bystander says they saw the rider entering the ramp, which has a 30 mph speed limit, at approximately 60 mph. The rider braked midway through the ramp, which apparently locked up his rear tire and sent him sliding into a concrete barrier. After colliding with the barrier the rider was ejected from the bike and onto Route 94, at which time a full-size Nissan Titan pickup truck hit him.
It doesn’t matter what day of the year it is, this story is an upsetting one to read. Firstly because a young man died, and secondly because that same young man was the one who could have saved himself. Something we need to understand as riders is before we even start worrying about other drivers on the road being inattentive, we should make sure we aren’t. It’s not important what the reason is, we have too much going on in our lives not to focus on the present, because it only takes a split-second for everything else to become completely irrelevant.
The San Diego motorcycle attorneys here at RiderzLaw offer our deepest condolences to the family and all those affected by this tragedy. We beg our readers to please be careful out on the roads, no matter what day of the year it is.
