In the last installment of my interview with Vincent Perry we discuss LA traffic, splitting lanes, and the importance of looks. Let’s get into it!
T: Comparatively, was there less traffic in your hometown?
V: Significantly less traffic. Right now, I live sixteen miles away from my school. Back home, traveling sixteen miles is like a fifteen/twenty minute drive. Here it’s like forty five minutes to an hour in the morning.
T: That’s crazy on a motorcycle.
V: Splitting lanes is my friend here, but before I was willing to split, I’d sit behind cars and it’d take forty-five minutes to an hour.
T: Do you ever see another motorcyclist go by and jump behind them and let them do all the hard work?
V: (laughs) Yes.
T: If you were to give advice to a new rider, what would you tell him/her?
V: Take more lessons. Especially if you’re going to be riding out here in LA. I had a little experience riding back home before I moved here, but it’s night and day riding out here. Definitely take lessons.
T: Do you encounter much negative energy riding a motorcycle?
V: I pay no attention to the naysayers. If people have said stuff, I haven’t been paying attention. No one has said anything to me.
T: Do you think you’ll ever try a mountain bike or any other type of bike?
V: I’ve tried a sports bike, but a mountain bike. I just don’t see it. (laughs)
T: You don’t see yourself gliding through the air?
V: Nope. I don’t want to be in the air. But say a friend has one, I might try it.
T: What’s your favorite piece of gear, or motorcycle phone app, that you use?
V: There’s an app called Motorcycle Weather. If ever I’m not on my bike, I’ll take the bus or city transit. What decides if I’m not on my bike? The rain. I wear a three quarter helmet, and that rain on my face feels terrible.
T: Do you keep the three quarter helmet because of the look or what?
V: I just like the look. Aesthetics. (laughs) Safety is paramount in riding, but I do like my helmet.
T: It’s classic. Do you wear glasses with it?
V: I do. I wear goggles. I keep an extra bandana in case it rains to put on my forehead to keep the rain from rolling into my eyes.
T: Any riding goals for 2019?
V: Not really. I enjoy the day to day of riding and going to see my friends. Riding with them. Riding goals, no. I’m a pretty simple guy.
T: Thanks for sitting down with me and happy riding.
I hope you all have enjoyed this interview with Vincent. It was a pleasure sitting down and chatting with him. Keeping a straight face proved difficult as he has a fun personality. I wish him the best of luck on his motorcycle journey as it’s truly just getting started.
Stay safe in these streets!
