A rider was killed Monday, September 11, 2017 in a motorcycle accident that occurred in the Pala Mesa area.
The incident took place on Interstate 15, north of State Route 76 around 3:30 p.m.
The rider has not been identified pending family notifications.
According to police and witnesses, the rider was lane splitting at an unknown speed when the bike struck the back of a Toyota Corolla. The rider was ejected from the bike, causing a chain reaction crash. A pickup truck swerved to avoid the downed rider, striking a Honda Civic, which pushed the Civic into a Volvo semi-trailer. The rider and the Civic driver were both taken to a local hospital, where the rider died of their injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and it was determined that neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the incident.
