I love going into motorcycle specialty stores as much as the next rider I’m sure. I also enjoy supporting local motorcycle businesses. However, sometimes as a buyer I’m doing myself a disservice by spending more money in a store, than simply researching and buying online.
For example, a friend of mine purchased some really expensive racing tires online, and got them for a really great deal. Apparently, he caught a flash sale on a website, and he was able to take advantage. He had the tires shipped to his mechanic, and he ended up only paying for the hourly rate for his mechanic’s time to mount the tires.
Around the same time, I’d blown a tire, and ended up spending more money than my friend for a way less impressive tire. I wasn’t happy with myself at all. Of course the shop charged me their retail price for the tire I replaced, and I still had to pay for the mechanic’s rate. I understand this is how sho’s make money. I’m not even upset about that aspect of going into the shop. My frustrations were with myself for rushing and not taking advantage of the world wide web.
Moving forward, I’ve decided to simply do my research, especially for items which cost more, like tires. Some benefits for buying online are warranties, a lot of time free shipping, saving money, and a wider variety of items to choose from. All of these highlights are enough of a reason for me to make this change, especially for an item I am already familiar with.
There are a number of websites which specialize in all things motorcycle related. A few of my favorites are Revzilla, Motorcycle Superstore, and MotoSport. All of these websites offer an array of motorcycle products and often have special deals for consumers. The gear is often top of the line, and a lot of the products come with promotional or explanatory videos. This is perhaps my favorite feature of how the sites post their items for sale.
In the past, I’ve watched a number of videos on jackets, helmets, and bike locks. These videos give the customers an inside look on what they can expect upon purchase. You’re able to see the jacket on a model, or how to use a lock, and special features of products are also usually featured.
Another wildly popular online website used for virtually everything now days is Amazon. They have a large variety of items for motorcyclists, and if you are a prime member you can receive your purchase incredibly fast. I don’t use Amazon as often for my motorcycle gear, but only because their selection isn’t as vast as the other specialty websites I’ve listed. However, you can purchase used items from sellers on Amazon, just be cautious.
Stay safe in these streets!
