Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident Lawyer Report: A fatal motorcycle accident occurred on the 405 Freeway near Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles last Saturday. According to California Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist, 39-year-old Brad Joel Harris, was riding his 2007 Ducati 1098 between lanes when he lost control of his bike, crashing into a Toyota Corolla. No other people were injured. Authorities report that Mr. Harris was trying to squeeze his bike through a small space between two cars in a construction zone – an area of narrowed road where lane-changing is prohibited. Mr. Harris lost control of the bike, hit a truck, then rear-ended the Toyota, killing him at the scene. The accident stopped traffic on the northbound 405 for hours.
While our deepest sympathies go out to this fallen rider and his family, if the accident report is accurate, this accident was entirely preventable. Lane splitting, while legal in California, should be done with great caution, and never in a construction zone. As motorcycle accident attorneys in Los Angeles and throughout California, we see far too many accidents caused by unsafe riding. As always, we urge our clients to ride safely and under control.
