A police investigation is under way as officials look for a lowered, white Honda Civic hatchback missing a mirror and with driver side door damage between the model years 2001 and 2004.
Last Wednesday a motorcyclist was riding on Mercy Road around 6:00 am near the I-15 when the Honda Civic ran through a red light and into the Scripps Poway Parkway intersection.
The rider has been identified as a 33-year-old man, and sustained a minor head injury and a fractured right leg.
Officials report that the Civic was just exiting the northbound I-15 moments before the crash. Following the collision, the drive of the Civic entered back onto the northbound I-15.
Witnesses say that the Civic possibly had tinted windows, dark wheels and a roof rack.
Officials are offering a $1000 reward for information that leads to the identification of the culprit. Anyone with information should call the San Diego Police Department Traffic Division at 858-495-7800, or Crime Stoppers on their anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477.
This is the story of a law-abiding rider falling victim to an inattentive driver. There is little defense a rider has against a red-light running vehicle. It is unfortunately a reality of being a motorcycle rider that the drivers around us have the power to put us onto the pavement at just about any moment. The best we can hope to do is predict or realize their intentions before they become dangerous, but in this circumstance it sounds as though the rider simply had no time to react. The San Diego motorcycle attorneys here at RiderzLaw wish a speedy recovery to the downed rider, and ask all our readers to stay safe out on the roads.
