Motorcycle Police Officer Injured On-Duty in Canyon Country

While riding to work, a San Gabriel Police Department officer was injured when he collided with a car in a Canyon Country intersection.

The Sheriff Department’s Lt. Chris Ortell identified the officer as SGPD Officer Steven Rodriguez.

Southbound traffic was shut down until noon on Whites Canyon Road while officers investigated the scene. According to Sheriff’s Lt. John Rush, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the San Gabriel Valley Police Department were both on scene investigating the crash site.

According to Lt. Mark Hershey, Lt. Rodriguez “…had a broken leg, a broken right foot, minor abrasions and a concussion” after having had collided with the vehicle on Whites at Ranier Street about 7 am.

Officers from Rodriguez’s department visited him at the Henry May Newhall Memorial Hospital before heading out to the crash site “to collect the rest of his stuff”.

Because Rodriguez was on his way to work, he was considered on-duty. LAFD paramedics received the first cell phone call at 6:48 am, and the officer was transported to Henry Mayo at 7:09 am. No others were reported to be taken to the hospital from the scene.

No fault was reported on this incident so we can’t say what the mistake was that led to this collision. What the Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident Lawyers here at RiderzLaw will say, is that Officer Steven Rodriguez has our sincerest wishes for a speedy recovery.
